The System Engineer is a key position for implementing, executing and evolving management services for current and future customers. The resource will be required to monitor system infrastructure and identify, troubleshoot and resolve issues. In addition, the resource will be required to identify and facilitate improvement projects in the areas of network and system monitoring.
Excellent problem detection and resolution skills are required to ensure that all issues are identified, resolved and communicated in a timely and professional manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors, analyzes, reports and troubleshoots the networks and systems from the time that they are being installed and ongoing for the production life of the network
- Provides ongoing system administration, management, trending, analysis and troubleshooting activities for system and networks
- Provide a high level of expertise in supporting system infrastructure to provide system tuning, prevent network problems; and, analyze, troubleshoot, isolate and diagnose problems.
- Development of task automation tools and programs
- Review assigned service requests, following up and providing status updates to clients; ensure data pertaining to the status of service requests is entered into help desk problem tracking systems accurately and promptly to provide an up-to-date picture of service delivery status and backlog; track issues/bugs from identification through resolution/completion
- Identify opportunities and recommend solutions for improving service efficiency and effectiveness; participate in IT initiatives to address service issues; keep abreast of technical aspects of networking, Wi-Fi and related disciplines
- Creating scripts / programs to automate tasks
- Follow procedures for network and system administration (e.g., security, reliability)
- Support teams developing networks, applications and databases
- Contribute to task forces and special projects initiated within departments/divisions
- Dispatches Field Support to investigate devices at a site that may be problematic
- Participate in On Call rotation for 24x7x365 service
- Possible requirement to travel (10 – 20%)
- Willingness to work flexible hours early morning or evening shift and / or weekends days a plus
- Perform other duties or responsibilities as assigned or required.
Education/Essential Skills:
- 4-year degree from accredited college or university or relevant experience
- At least two years experience managing/administering servers and systems
- Strong analytical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills
- Demonstrated proficiency working with:
- Linux Servers (installation, configuration and care & feeding)
- MySQL, Apache / nginx
- Programming / Scripting experience in at least one (python, shell, perl, php, scala, etc.)
- Microsoft Office Suite, including Visio

- Networking and/or Network Monitoring Systems
- RADIUS / TACACS Authentication
